Future Scaping HR Human Resources can find it roots by looking no further than the purchasing department. From the beginning, hiring and firing people, the traditional core of Human Resources functions, was done by the purchasing agent. The thinking behind this was that purchasing agents procured the land, equipment, materials, and as a extension of this the people to ensure proper functioning of the business. To an extent of this attitude that people where to be purchased, unions arouse to protect the interest of the worker. To negotiate with the unions, companies adapted by having their own representatives, giving rise to the labor relations function within HR. Thinking about this future of HR may help to change today’s HR practices in positive ways. This paper then is to look into the future and take a look at the future trends of the HR profession. Before diving into our time machine to go future scaping, how did we get to the point we are now in HR? What people, places, and policies have made the workplace what it is today? I would like to look at four companies – Procter Gamble, IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and Southwest Airlines who created places of work that stood out during various times of the last century. These companies are just a small sample of HR thinking today, although, they comprise of an important part of it. Started in 1837 as a soap and candle maker (Fortune, 139), Procter and Gamble was a model of exemplary employee relations at the turn of the 20th century. This employee relations improvement came about when the company introduced a profit-sharing plan to foster company loyalty. The plan was improved in 1903 by tying it to the purchase of company stock, and today it is known as the oldest profit sharing plan in operation. Directly, people are offered employment in such a Company while indirectly people use the social media as a marketing platform and earn f rom it. Social networking did start today, it started decades back (Steinberg et al 2015, 110). The only difference is that there are major advancements as people wake up every day. People in the past used to walk to socialize and that was social networking too. Things changed when the internet was introduced. One of the known networking platforms is the Facebook. It was also the mother of social media platforms. It was introduced first before companies like Classmate and Instagram. There are million people who have accounts in the Company. Its a worldwide platform (Al-Aufi and Fulton. 2015, 225). Social media can be used to do various things (Waters 2013, 102). These things change over time. Taking a Company like Facebook, it just started as a social media platforms where people just added friends and pictures. The uses keep on changing as people also understand how such platforms can be used for the better compared to just socializing. Currently, people have even settled businesses in other people platforms. Giving an example, bloggers use social media like Facebook and LinkedIn to show their prowess in matters affecting human beings. Look at them now; some are millionaires because of that. But before, it was just a platform which was used to communicate. In developing countries, people use the social media to do business. People advertise the used cars and such platforms for resale. There are others who are developers; they do advertise their services on such platforms to get clients. Social media is used everywhere (Shi et al. 2018, 00). People might think that social networking has come to an end, but there will always be more. Inventions dont stop; they evolve around time. There are still more in the future, and they will be better compared to know. In social networking, everything is equally possible. Methodology To get the trends and developments in social networking, there was the need to do researches on people who work in social media companies and the users. The best form of collecting the data was through surveys and interviews. Interviews were to the employees in social media companies while online surveys were done to the general public. Interviews done to the employees in social media companies were focused on the trends and issues affecting such companies. The employees touched areas like hacking and information release as some of the challenging issues. The trends revolved around making the social media more close to human beings as possible. The online surveys to the users who are the general public revolved of the help that social platforms have brought and the future of social media. They indicated the merits and fewer demerits associated with social media. Most of the people who appreciated the use of the social media are the youths, developers, and people who use the media for business purposes. Secondary sources for such a study is very important (Eysenbach, 2013. 3). The secondary sources included journals, articles and published books on social networking. The methodology helped in combining the view of different writers on their view on social networking and coming up with one unique reasoning at the end as a one document. The research was unique different from other researchers. Online surveys for example will attract so many people since in the current generation everybody is online. Not only will it attract, but it will also reach many people. Internet is everywhere in the world meaning the methodology will help in gaining feedback from all over the world. When all these survey answers are put together, it will give a clear outline on how the social media is absorbed by the society, its uses and limitations. Results There has been trends in social media, it has been growing at a very fast rate (Oh, Ozkaya and LaRose. 2014, 70). As indicated above, such platforms started as communication platforms, and now they are used for both communication and business purposes. Thats a major trend, and there are many to come. During social media invention, people use to chat and add pictures to their profiles. These days people can use the social media to have a call to a person who has located anywhere in the world provided there is the internet connection. The call can be a voice call or a video call too. The video call is of high quality, over 1080 megapixels HDD. Although the social media has been on the forehead in making sure people communicate and earn, there are other negative issues (Lento et al. 2016, 460). These issues include information leakage of the clients registered in this sites. People have valued information hidden in their profile accounts. When such information goes to the public, there can be a lot of confusion since there can be secrets that can be known. It is one of the current problems mostly experienced in Facebook recently. Clients data must be protected at all cost. Hackers are also bad news to the social media platforms. They get into people profiles within no time and access everything. They are the most common threat and also most dangerous threats. In conclusion, social networking started a long time ago but kept on advancing as time kept of changing. Some of the social platforms are Facebook and LinkedIn. Such platforms have helped the general public in very many ways. Shweta Kataria Ms. Naomi British Literature: 19th Century 3 rd April 2017 JANE AUSTEN Jane Austen ( born on December 16, 1775, Steventon, Hampshire , England died July 18, 1817, Winchester , Hampshire), English writer who first gave the novel its distinctly modern character through her treatment of ordinary people in everyday life. She published four novels during her lifetime: Sense and Sensibility , Pride and Prejudice , Mansfield Park , and Emma . In these and in Persuasion and Northanger Abbey , she vividly depicted English middle-class life during the early 19th century. Her novels defined the era's novel of manners . Jane Austen was born in the Hampshire village of Steventon, where her father, the Reverend George Austen, was rector. She was the second daughter and seventh child in a family of eightsix boys and two girls. Her closest companion throughout her life was her elder sister, Cassandra. Their father was a scholar who encouraged the love of learning in his children. His wife was a woman of ready wit, famed for her impromptu verses and stories. The great family amusement was acting. Jane Austen's lively and affectionate family circle provided a stimulating context for her writing. Moreover, her experience was carried far beyond Steventon rectory by an extensive network of relationships by blood and friendship. It was this worldof the minor landed gentry and the country clergy, in the village, the neighborhood, and the country town, with occasional visits to Bath and to Londonthat she was to use in the settings, characters, and subject matter of her novels. Jane Austen's three early novels form a distinct group in which a strong element of literary satire accompanies the comic depiction of character and society. Sense and Sensibility tells the story of the impoverished Dashwood sisters. Marianne is the heroine of "sensibility"i.e., of openness and enthusiasm. She becomes infatuated with the attractive John Willoughby, who seems to be a romantic lover but is in reality an unscrupulous fortune hunter. He deserts her for an heiress, leaving her to learn a dose of "sense" in a wholly unromantic marriage with a staid and settled bachelor, Colonel Brandon, who is 20 years her senior. By contrast, Marianne's older sister, Elinor, is the guiding light of "sense," or prudence and discretion, whose constancy toward her lover, Edward Ferrars, is rewarded by her marriage to him after some distressing vicissitudes. Pride and Prejudice describes the clash between Elizabeth Bennet, the daughter of a country gentleman, and Fitzwilliam Darcy , a rich and aristocratic landowner. Although Austen shows them intrigued by each other, she reverses the convention of "first impressions": "pride" of rank and fortune and "prejudice" against the inferiority of the Bennet family hold Darcy aloof, while Elizabeth is equally fired both by the "pride" of self-respect and by "prejudice" against Darcy's snobbery. Ultimately, they come together in love and self-understanding. The intelligent and high-spirited Elizabeth was Jane Austen's own favourite among all her heroines and is one of the most engaging in English literature. Northanger Abbey combines a satire on conventional novels of polite society with one on Gothic tales of terror. Catherine Morland, the unspoiled daughter of a country parson, is the innocent abroad who gains worldly wisdom, first in the fashionable society of Bath and then at Northanger Abbey itself, where she learns not to interpret the world through her reading of Gothic thrillers. Her mentor and guide is the self-assured and gently ironic Henry Tilney, her husband-to-be. In the three novels of Jane Austen's maturity, the literary satire, though still present, is more subdued and is subordinated to the comedy of character and society. In its tone and discussion of religion and religious duty, Mansfield Park is the most serious of Austen's novels. The heroine, Fanny Price, is a self-effacing cousin cared for by the Bertram family in their country house. Fanny emerges as a true heroine whose moral strength eventually wins her complete acceptance in the Bertram family and marriage to Edmund Bertram himself, after that family's disastrous involvement with the meretricious and loose-living Crawfords.
